That Thing with Rich Appel
Apr 19 @ 6:00 pm – 8:59 pm

If you loved the era of fast-paced top 40 radio – where DJs talked up to the vocals, the jingles stood out, and the commercials were almost as good as the hits – That Thing with Rich Appel is the show for you. It brings back the sound of classic Top 40 radio  highlighting not just the hits, but the jingles, commercials and news that made the era including features like “The Slow Dance Make-Out Song of the Week”, “A Year in an Hour” and “The World’s Shortest Countdown.”

Fridays from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on WVBI.

Midnight Special
Apr 19 @ 11:00 pm – Apr 20 @ 12:59 am

Midnight SpecialOriginal, offbeat, fun, and thought provoking WFMT’s The Midnight Special is  the world’s weekly aberration of folk music and farce, show tunes and satire, madness and escape. Hosted by Beaver Island summer resident Rich Warren, The Midnight Special often airs live performances recorded by WFMT over the past 55 years that are not available commercially, including well-known artists appearing at Chicago area clubs, concert venues, the University of Chicago Folk Festivals and the comedy revues of Chicago’s famed Second City. One of the Frequently Asked Questions is, “If it’s the Midnight Special, why isn’t it on at Midnight?” That’s a good question. It never has been.  On WVBI or WFMT.  Go figure.

Friday nights at 11:00 p.m. on WVBI.
