Today is Tuesday September 19th, 2017.
I’m Greg Doig with today’s WVBI Community Calendar.

Saturday 9am -9pm

The Peaine Township board is requesting that all boats be removed from the launch sites at Fox Lake and Lake Geneserath prior to the end of the season.
Any boat owner unable to comply with this request should contact the supervisor at 231.448.2389 or via email at peainetownship@gmail.com<mailto:peainetownship@gmail.com>

Anyone who walks the beaches frequently and would be willing to be a BEACH RANGER… please call me at 448-2220.
Beach Rangers monitor the beaches for dead birds and fish in the fall. This is in response to Avian Botulism. I don’t expect much this year as the water remained cooler than normal and the algae didn’t form.
Note: if you’re fishing, Lead sinkers are picked up by some birds and is absorbed by the bird and causes the poisoning and death.
Please if you have lead sinkers-fishermen and women- do not use them and dispose of them properly. They are hazardous to animals.

This summit is intended for representatives from all populated islands on the Great Lakes and key off-island partners from government, academia, and other sectors. The aim is to learn about recent efforts by island communities to work together collaboratively and to build interest in creating a durable, long-term inter-island network. Beaver Island is hosting the summit and while there will be a number of events aimed at our visitors, there will also be events designed to be of interest to Beaver Islanders. Stay tuned for details and to learn how you can help found the Great Lakes Islands Coalition.

At our website, we’ve tried to include everything, but if we’ve missed your event you can easily add it yourself by using the handy “Post Your Event” button in the upper right of the calendar or by sending an email with the details to calendar@wvbi.net<mailto:calendar@wvbi.net>. And, we can make it easy for your events to show up in a nice calendar on your website, too, so you only have to post them once. Your website can show only your events or those plus other categories from the calendar that you choose.

If you are packing up to head off-island after your summer here, remember that the Pantry can use many of those foodstuffs that you don’t want to carry home with you. For your convenience, there are collection baskets at the Beaver Island Christian Church, Beaver Island Community Center, Beaver Island Rural Health Center, Fresh Air, Holy Cross Church and Island Airways.

We can accept unopened, unexpired non-perishable food items. Cash donations are tax-deductible and are always appreciated as well. Checks can be made payable to the Beaver Island Christian Church, PO Box 21, Beaver Island, 49782. Please write Food Pantry on the memo line. Or you can use the Donation button at the bottom of the home page at beaverislandnews.com, Joe Moore’s News on the Net.

Traffic
… Still no delays to report on Beaver Island.

Hey, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

To Lucas and all our listeners, a sincere smile towards another is a courtesy we can give, that can make someone feel good without a touch.

On a lighter note, what are a pirate’s favorite lyrics? Shake your booty!!!

That’s the WVBI Community Calendar for Tuesday September 19th, 2017.
