Today is Friday May 19th, 2017. I’m Greg Doig with today’s WVBI Community Calendar.
RED Friday Remember Everyone Deployed
There’s all sorts of culinary news breaking on the island. Word is that the Circle M, Daddy Franks and The Restaurant over at the Beaver Island Lodge will be open for Memorial Day Weekend. And the Whiskey Point Brewing Company is moving into Dan Burton’s old Boat shop, though it’ll be some time before they open up.
The Lodge’s new Executive Chef stopped by the BIC Center yesterday to say hello. He has all sort of yummy things planned for the summer including traditional menu favorites and fresh dishes he’s developed from his work all of the country and as far away as Hawaii. He’ll be on Beaver Island Perspectives on Friday after the News at 5 to tell us all about what he has planned.

The 4th annual Beaver Island Birding Festival, Warblers on the Water, will be held on May 26-28, 2017, on Beaver Island, in northern Lake Michigan.
We hope you join us during the Memorial Day birding festivities for free presentations at the Community Center. Bring a friend and hear from our globe-trotting birding friends share their exciting experiences birding, learn about the oldest ongoing raptor monitoring project related to Ospreys and Bald Eagles, and learn a few new songbird identification techniques. More information can be found at: www.beaverislandbirdingtrail.org/wowschedule.html. Registrations for the guided field trips are active and we encourage individuals who are interested to sign up early.
Thank you to our 2017 sponsors who are making the Beaver Island Birding Trail events possible:
While you’re at the website you can see all the great sponsors. There is also a new addition to their site. After the Saturday and Sunday morning birding field trips, Karen Whitecraft, owner of Beaver Island Massage, licensed massage therapist, will be available to help with “warbler necks”. Karen will offer on-site chair massages at the Community Center from 12:30-3:00 p.m. both days.

On a lighter note, I once wondered aloud if it was strange to be talking to myself? I then answered aloud, NO!!
