Posted on Posted in News Update

Today is Monday March 5th, 2018. I’m Greg Doig with today’s WVBI Community Calendar.

If you missed the Cummings String Quartet playing here at the BIC Center on Friday, you’re not completely out of luck. Our Beaver Island Radio Workshop minions recorded it and, in addition to broadcasting it on Sunday, they’ve uploaded it to our podcasts page. To listen to it, point your computer, tablet or smartphone browser at w-v-b-i dot net and click on the podcasts menu. It’ll be there along with all of our other podcasts including The Storyteller’s Night Sky, recent news reports, radio theater and radio shows from the Beaver Island Community School Media Lab. And it’s all free. So check it out on the podcasts menu on the w-v-b-I website at w-v-b-I dot net.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent to clean up the Great Lakes. A lot of that money goes toward contaminated sediment from steel mills and other industry. And a federal law targets some of the worst areas. WXXI’s Caitlin Whyte reports for Great Lakes Today on the law’s impact along Lake Ontario, near Rochester New York.

Great Lakes Today is a collaboration of WBFO Buffalo, ideastream Cleveland, and WXXI Rochester.

Coming Up
There will be a general meeting of the membership of the Beaver Island Archipelago Trails Association on Tuesday, March 6th at 7 p.m. at the Peaine Twp. Hall.

At our website, we’ve tried to include everything, but if we’ve missed your event you can easily add it yourself by using the handy “Post Your Event” button in the upper right of the calendar or by sending an email with the details to<>. And, we can make it easy for your events to show up in a nice calendar on your website, too, so you only have to post them once. Your website can show only your events or those plus other categories from the calendar that you choose.

To help coordinate the events we’ve taken the major events for Summer 2018 and compiled them into a nifty little Celebrate Summer 2018 online calendar. Just point your browser at to get the lowdown on everything planned so far for next summer. Then check back from time to time as more events will be added as dates are firmed up.

Still no delays to report on Beaver Island.

Hey, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

To Lucas, Sophia and all our listeners, try to find some laughter in every day.
On a lighter note, I once asked my late grandmother why she read the obituaries every day. She said she was just looking to see who was single again!!!
That’s the WVBI Community Calendar for Monday March 5th, 2018.

I’m Greg Doig at WVBI‚ the Voice of Beaver Island. Make today the best day ever, and thank you for listening!
