Community Calendar for June 14, 2017

Posted on Posted in News Update

Today is Wednesday June 14th, 2017. I’m Greg Doig with today’s WVBI Community Calendar.

The final candidate for Beaver Island’s first Island Fellow was here at the BIC Center for a meet and greet session. About twenty community members turned out to say hello to Stephanie Burchill, and she stopped by our studios yesterday afternoon and told us a little bit about herself…

As the Island Fellow Stephanie would focus on communications both here on the island—so we all know what’s going on and feel connected—and with the mainland—so people there know what a great place this is to visit and live. Those were identified as area of community concern during master plan process and other recent community meetings.
The meetings yesterday were an opportunity for both Ms. Burchill and the community to meet and make sure we have a good match. According to Pam Grassmick who serves on the selection committee, everything seemed to go well and we should have a final call soon.

Public input on a water trail planning effort for Beaver Island will be gathered at an open house on Monday, June 19, at 7 p.m. at the Beaver Island Community Center.

Plans for July 4th Carnival
Just had a productive meeting with Diane McDonough about the 4th of July Carnival. Here is where it stands. If we can secure enough volunteers in the next week, we will proceed. If we cannot, we may need to forego the carnival this year. Please spread the word to those who may be interested. We hate to disappoint but it takes many, many volunteers to make this happen! We know this is a busy time for everyone…

Traffic

… Still no delays to report on Beaver Island.

Hey, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

To Lucas and all our listeners, every smile we make and each one we see, make makes that day a better one.

On a lighter note, why did the strawberry cry? Because it got in a jam!!!
