The 4th annual Beaver Island Birding Festival, Warblers on the Water, will be held on May 26-28, 2017, on Beaver Island, in northern Lake Michigan. We hope you join us during the Memorial Day birding festivities for free presentations at the Community Center. Bring a friend and hear from our globe-trotting birding friends share their exciting experiences birding, learn about the oldest ongoing raptor monitoring project related to Ospreys and Bald Eagles, and learn a few new songbird identification techniques. More information can be found at: www.beaverislandbirdingtrail.org/wowschedule.html. Registrations for the guided field trips are active and we encourage individuals who are interested to sign up early.
Thank you to our 2017 sponsors who are making the Beaver Island Birding Trail events possible:
While you’re at the website you can see all the great sponsors. There is also a new addition to their site. After the Saturday and Sunday morning birding field trips, Karen Whitecraft, owner of Beaver Island Massage, licensed massage therapist, will be available to help with “warbler necks”. Karen will offer on-site chair massages at the Community Center from 12:30-3:00 p.m. both days.

Info about Island Fellow Program
Beaver Island has an exceptional opportunity to launch its own Island Fellow program modeled on a highly successful one on Maine’s islands over the past 17 years.
If you are interested in additional information about the position and the benefits the island stands to gain, check out the March 29th Forum post or contact one of the organizers of this effort listed below. Anyone who wants to help fund this position through either a cash donation, or the offer of free or reduced-price rental for a year are encouraged to ask for a copy of the Site Application which has been shared with both townships by contacting Kevin Boyle, Pam Grassmick, or Patrick McGinnity.
You can learn more about the very successful Island Fellow program run by the Maine Island Institute and see how useful Island Fellows focused on communications and outreach have been in advancing economic development on their islands at www.islandinstitute.org/program/community-development/island-fellows. … Still no delays to report on Beaver Island.
Hey, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.
To Lucas and all our listeners, being straightforward and of good character will keep you in good memories by others, now and beyond.
On a lighter note, I once ate at a restaurant where the portions were tiny. When the waiter poured my coffee, he said that he hoped I would dine there again. I said, “Sure, why don’t we start now!”
That’s the WVBI Community Calendar for Thursday April 20th, 2017. I’m Greg Doig at WVBI‚ the Voice of Beaver Island. Have a great day, and thank you for listening!
