Darrell Lawson

Darrell Lawson began birding four years ago and developed an instant passion for our avian friends. He is the acting president of the Petoskey Regional Audubon Society and is a committee member for the Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch. He routinely leads field trips in Northwest Michigan and the Eastern Upper Peninsula. Although he now birds routinely both inside and outside of the state of Michigan, Beaver Island has become his favorite birding destination and he has helped to organize and lead fall pelagic trips to the Island the past three years. This will be his fourth year leading field trips for the spring festival.

Drinking Habits 2: Caught in the Act @ Beaver Island Community Center
May 28 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
A BI Community Players’ Holiday weekend production!

Our beloved Beaver Island Community Players reprise their 2015 hit production of Drinking Habits by Tom Smith with Drinking Habits 2: Caught in the Act!

The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing miss the excitement of the old days when they were saving convents and reuniting long-lost families. So when they learn that the orphanage where Paul and Kate grew up is in peril, they can’t wait to come to the rescue. Everyone pitches in to mount a play to raise money, but it’s no easy feat when Kate’s expecting any day, Sally’s hiding from stage-fright-stricken Paul after another flight from the altar, Mother Superior’s acting is unexpectedly narcoleptic, and the sisters’ award-winning wine keeps getting switched with the grape juice. The merry mix-ups multiply in this warm and winsome sequel to Drinking Habits.

The cast includes both veterans of the original production, as well as some brand new faces in the spotlight. Cast: Sarah Avery, Phil Becker, Marie Boyle, Becca Foli, Lisa Gillespie, Tessa Jones, Patrick McGinnity, and Patrick Nugent.

Directing the show is Jacque LaFreniere, who co-directed the 2015 production of Drinking Habits and also collaborated on bringing the first hilarious nuns to the Community Players stage in 2000 with Nunsense.

Joining the BI Community Players’ family is Stan Jensen as Scenic and Lighting Designer. Stan is a recent addition to our year-round BI community, and Professor Emeritus with the CMU University Theatre Department.

Memorial Day weekend performances will be on Saturday, May 27 at 7:30pm, and Sunday, May 28 at 8pm at the BIC Center, home of the Beaver Island Community Players. Tickets are $13 Adults, and $8 for students and are available at the BIC Center, or by calling 231-448-2022.

Following the show, join the cast and crew for a “meet and greet” gathering at the Shamrock Bar and Restaurant, one of the show’s special sponsors.

Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc., www.playscripts.com.
